Established Australian racing outfit Synergy Motorsport is bound for American shores in 2025, confirming its plans to tackle the competitive USF2000 Championship Presented by Continental Tire with last year’s Australian Formula Ford Champion Eddie Beswick.
The Synergy Motorsport operation has been a familiar sight in the Australian Formula Ford paddock for well over a decade. In addition to winning the national title last year with Beswick, the team also guided two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Chaz Mostert to the championship in 2010 while other Synergy Motorsport graduates include national Formula Ford Champions John Martin and Paul Laskazeski, international Porsche ace Matt Campbell, Formula 1 consultant Sam Power and current Super2 star Cody Burcher.
Synergy Motorsport owner Justin Cotter is a veteran of the sport, having himself competed in Formula Ford in the late ‘90s before beginning his team ownership journey, and he is passionate about nurturing young talent.
“I’ve always been a fan of the US racing scene and have kept a close eye on Will Power, Ryan Briscoe and Scott Andrews, amongst others,” Cotter said.
“The open-wheel racing scene is well-structured, with a scholarship system that provides financial support for drivers to progress through the USF Juniors, USF2000, USF Pro and INDY NXT categories before ultimately making it to INDYCAR.
“There’s also a thriving sportscar racing scene and overall, I just feel there are more opportunities for young drivers to pursue professional opportunities.”
Cotter will initially enter one USF2000 car for Beswick, but is planning to expand to additional entries throughout the season before tackling some of the other categories.
“The name ‘Synergy’ means a group of people working together to achieve a common goal, and I’m confident we have the right people in place to achieve great results in the US, while continuing our Australian Formula Ford operations,” Cotter said.
Off the back of his Australian Formula Ford success, Beswick competed in one round of the 2024 USF2000 Championship at the Toronto Street Circuit last year, and is looking forward to a full season campaign in 2025.
“The USF2000 car is a different beast, but the technical nature of the Formula Ford car and level of competition in the Australian series have prepared me well,” Beswick said.
“There are some regulation changes for 2025, which will hopefully level the playing field for us coming in as a new team.”
Beswick is excited to be part of Synergy Motorsport’s next chapter in the sport.
“Justin is like another member of my family and has taught me a lot about not just racing, but life in general. He’s very passionate about the sport, and it’s an honour to be part of this next stage in Synergy Motorsport’s journey.”
The official pre-season USF2000 test takes place at NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale, LA on 22-23 February, with Rounds 1 and 2 of the championship at the St Petersburg street circuit on 28 February-2 March.
